What we do & Current Projects

With more than 20 years of experience working with urban poor and marginalized sections, Sur Nirman had undertook a number of initiatives on own resources and on partnership with Government agencies and following are some of the important programmes that were/are being implemented by the organization:

Mahila Panchayat

The organization has set up Mahila Panchayats in Central and East Delhi districts with assistance and support from Delhi Commission for Women, Delhi. These Panchayats meet once in a fortnight to discuss their problems and place them before the Panchayat leaders who also participate in the meetings. The organization uses the opportunity to create awareness on day to day developments taking place in Delhi, government schemes, rules and regulations etc. The women are informed in such a way that now they themselves conduct the Panchayats without anyone’s help. Prevention of domestic violence, providing help and assistance to women who are subjected domestic violence, property, maintenance, and harassment by husband.

Mahila Helpline 181

A project under the Delhi Commission for Women, it is intended to provide emergency services to women in distress especially women subjected to domestic violence, etc and provide them with assistance in filing FIRs, medical assistance followed by legal protection, etc. Under this project, any woman who is in distress or who fears violence by anyone at home and outside, can call this helpline and get the required assistance and protection.

Night Shelters

We are running 4 night shelters supported by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in Azamgarh, Allahabad districts where homeless are provided with shelter and food. This service is a boon to the homeless especially in severe winter.

Training for Women on Beauty Culture

Computer: hardware and software trainings

For many years, our organization is imparting training to boys and girls in computer software and hardware with its own institutional support. There is a huge demand for this as computer hardware and software trainings are having the potential for gainful employment opportunities for the school dropout youths. So far, we have trained hundreds of young boys and girls in this course in both Delhi Gate and Patparganj Centres.
